My name is Anabrese and I live with 5 ratty girls and two ratty fellas.

I have both been living an holistic and organic lifestyle for over 20 years with personal experience of macrobiotic, ayurvedic and raw food diets.

Myself and my partner both love rats and like to look after them in as natural a way as possible. Our rats follow a raw food diet and we also feed plenty of herbs, natural grasses and they also have access to a soil box for digging.

I am always learning new things about our rats and their preferences. I believe a raw food diet with natural supplements is the best place to start in having happier and healthier longer-living fancy rats.

The aim of this site is to share information about the raw feeding and holistic care of pet rats.

You may also be interested to know that there is a yahoo group called 'holistarat'  where discussions take place about the many aspects of alternative/natural care approaches with pet rats .

I have found very few resources available to those who would like to take care of their pet rats naturally. Whilst I always recommend you seek your vets advice for any ill rats, it is always helpful to have the knowledge of how you can treat your rat at home using natural therapies, or alongside allopathic medicine. I am not a vet but have simply applied what I know about holistic health with myself and my rats.

The foundation of good health begins with nutrition, so that is the best place to start in the care of your furry friends. 'You are what you eat' is true for our pets too.
