Recipes For Pet Rats

Beta Carotene Soup

2 large tomatoes
1 yellow bell pepper
1 inch slice of butternut squash
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 handful pumpkin seeds
1 tsp lemon juice
1 small handful fresh coriander or basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/8 tsp turmeric
dash sea salt
1/2-3/4 ptint hot water
1 tsp miso (opt)

This is an orangey tangy soup rich in beta carotene, zinc and lycopene (anti-cancer properties). Put all the ingredients into the blender and add hot water. Blend until completely smooth. If using miso, only add a pinch of sea salt or kelp.

This is a very beneficial soup for rats as it contains turmeric which is an anti-inflammatory and is thought to aid in the healing of cancerous growths. You can vary the herbs to use what you have available. Fresh thyme is also very good here. Miso has been associated with anti-cancer properties. Susie recommends it!

Instant Miso Soup

Miso is believed to have anti-cancer properties. Here is my quick miso soup version. If your rats don't like it, you could always use it as a gravy for veggies or as the liquid in their porridge.

1 heaped tsp unpasteurised organic miso
pinch kelp
1/2 clove garlic
1 tsp flax oil
1 mug of hot water
a few sprigs fresh basil leaves

Blend together until smooth. The blending allows the oil and liquid to mix, making the soup smooth. I found it delicious, try it yourself and let me know how you and your ratties like it! Mine love it.
